Where does my donation go?

"The area that we are really lacking is in the patient, family and even surgeon/health care professional education area. At present most information available in the public domain is poor, and not necessarily relevant to our patients and families. In many cases some of the info causes unnecessary anxiety for our families."

A website and printed literature based on expert advice from the limb reconstruction team at SickKids, combined with input from past and current patient families about their experiences. The goal is to provide a forum not just for the children treated at SickKids, but also for others across Canada and internationally. It will also serve to better educate referring physicians and surgical trainees, who will take away treatment protocols for their patients when they leave.

A patient amenities fund that provides financial support for patients and their families to help with out-of-pocket expenses, such as orthotics, wheelchair rentals, and physiotherapy. For some families, especially those without extended health insurance, the costs of these essential medical supplies and treatment can be prohibitively high. Fortunately, SickKids is able to alleviate some of the financial burden on these families through donations made possible by Spin for Limbs.

A research program at SickKids that is dedicated to limb and bone regeneration and repair. This research will be directly aimed at bettering our understanding of the biology of limb regeneration in the hopes of one day finding new medicines or other therapies to help children who need limb reconstruction. The more that is known about limb tissue growth and bone regeneration and repair, the faster these children can get on their way to living healthy, active lives.
